Family Youth Insight

FYI is a substance abuse program that was designed to bridge the gap between education and traditional outpatient counseling programs. It was developed for individuals ages 14-19 who are experiencing difficulties related to substance use.

The program is 5 weeks in length and includes one-on-one counseling sessions and a two- hour group session each week. The group occurs in a safe, supportive environment, allowing individuals to freely express their thoughts and feelings about the information presented. A family focus series is offered, and parental involvement is encouraged. The program is structured, with each session building on the previous individual and group sessions. Individual needs, however, are also considered.

Sessions will focus on substance abuse/dependency education, peer pressure, enhancing coping and refusal skills, and examining each participant’s attitudes and beliefs about substances. Each individual will meet the goal of having a clear picture of their substance use and its effect upon their lives. The primary goal is to assist participants with problem recognition and promote individual growth.

Sessions are led by a substance abuse counselor who has more than 15 years experience working in the chemical dependency field, including prevention, intervention, treatment and aftercare.
